五集纪录片《功夫少林》自足当下，向全球观众展示21世纪的今天，少林功夫与功夫人真实传奇，揭秘功夫背后深藏着的中国人的生存智慧与生命哲学。总导演肖崴介绍，《功夫少林》是一部向中国传统武术致敬的作品，片中出现的每一位武林高手都经过了编导们的精心选择。他说：“他们特别有情怀，特别有血性和担当，这是中国男人最应该具有的素质。”总撰稿严枝俏是主创团队中唯一的女性，她说：“通过参与创作此片，我代表了中国女性去探索中国男子汉应该是什么样子。我认为，中国男人应该有家国情怀、儿女情长、傲骨铮铮、铁肩担当、值得信赖。”艺术指导朱兰亭则表示，《功夫少林》拍的是武功，但核心是讲做人，讲中国人的价值观，这是中国人千百年来坚守的东西。
